Manchester has for decades held a special place in youth culture. The city has been a cultural centre for some of the big youth culture movements, including the Mods, electro scene and recent retro revivals. As a result the fashion in Manchester is a big industry. There is a great range of shopping options in Manchester, from vintage chic, to high street brands, and a huge selection of different outlets, all offering different styles and designers.
First and foremost, there is the Manchester Arndale. The Manchester Arndale is the largest indoor shopping centre in the UK. With over two hundred and forty shops, this is a mecca for all your shopping needs and, if you only have time to make one stop on your Manchester shopping excursion, this should be it. There is also a food court and various bars, so if you need a break from shopping, you can always take a load off somewhere comfortable.
If you are looking for something a little more off the beaten track, there are some excellent vintage boutiques in Manchester City Centre. Pop Boutique is a retro icon in its own right, having been established in 1983. Similarly, Retro Rehab sells an array of very chic retro clothing, from pencil skirts to parachute pants, though some items may be an acquired taste.
Last but not least, Affleck's is Manchester's indie emporium, a compromise between the shopping mall and the vintage store. With five floors crammed with every kind of eclectic item you can imagine, if nothing else it is an excellent experience. Whether you are looking for a new tattoo, or the perfect cravat to go with your three piece suit, you will find what you are looking for somewhere in Affleck's.

How To Spare Your Wallet Some Pain When Choosing Flight And Hotel
The cost of the flight and hotel can be a factor that stains the excitement of travelling abroad, although we know we should not allow our well-needed R&R to be marred by financial worries, we cannot escape the fact that the tab for a two-week trip can run pretty high if you do not exercise some tender, love and care when it comes to choosing the right flight and hotel.
The differences in the price range offered by different travel companies are, when it comes to the package of flight and hotel, not counted in nickel and dimes, but rather in hundreds- yes sometimes even thousands- of dollars.
That is why it is so essential for the wanna-be traveller to take some time out of his or her busy schedule and invest that precious time in researching the best deals of flight and hotel that are available. Because trust us, they are available.
The online market for finding the best deals on flight and hotel are plentiful, and if you want to free yourself of the headache and the killjoy of worrying about how much money is ticking away when you really should be focused on the Piña Colada in your hand and the water line no more than a few steps away, then investing the time to browse through the options and comparing them might turn out to have an investment return that is not only valuable in hard currency, but for the priceless value of your piece of mind as well.
Nobody likes the feeling of being in over their head, but eager as many people are of finally getting away, they want to get the booking over and done with and do not always have access to the right type of patience when it comes to finding the best deal possible for a flight and hotel.
The result of rushing into booking a flight and hotel may range from a slight irritation the feeling of being overcharged can give way to serious sleep deprivation when you realize that the little inner voice telling you the deal you booked was too expensive.
This is a root cause for unnecessary aggravation, as almost any destination is trafficked with enough airlines in order for you to find a competitive and great deal on a flight and hotel package.
All it will take on your part is bit of time and patience. And when you consider the financial as well as emotional benefits of finding that perfect deal for a flight and hotel, then you will probably realize that the time you have spent researching it has not cost half of what you have saved.
So wherever you are planning on going, make sure it is a trip that you will remember forever because of the fond memories you carry with you, and not because you could not stop fretting about all the money you wasted on not researching for the best deal of a flight and hotel.

5 Of The Most Beautiful Places To Spend Christmas
World Most Beautiful Places To Spend Christmas Time
With summer leaving us behind, we all know that winter time is right around the corner. And with winter, comes the magical time of year that is Christmas! We all know that Christmas is one of the most romantic, joyous and beautiful times of year – and many of us around the world choose this time of year to jet away and take a vacation. And after all, why not? It’s during this time of year we can get away from it all, enjoy the company of the people we love, leave work behind us and experience some beautiful places around the world.
So where should you head to?
Well as I mentioned, there are some truly gorgeous places around the world – and Christmas time seems to bring out the beauty in just about any destination. But some cities and locations really come to life during this time of year, so keep reading for my top 5 Christmas locations…
1. New York
All the iconic Christmas movies are based in NYC, and for good reason! The city is truly romantic during Christmas time – as all the beautiful romantic destinations get even prettier when they’re covered in snow! You can visit the giant Rockefeller Centre Christmas tree, you can ice-skate in central park, you can visit the Christmas musicals… it’s endless! So wrap up warm in your winter hat and enjoy!
2. Munich
For an amazing, thoroughly European Christmas adventure, head off to Munich. The Christmas bells ring throughout the Alp Mountains and it really is something beautiful to behold. There is a stunning market too for you to wander around and really take in the culture and atmosphere. You could even grab a traditional Christmas dinner of roast Goose and potato dumplings!
3. Boston
For old-world Christmas tradition and old-movie magic, then Boston is totally where you’ll want to spend Christmas time. The beautiful cobblestoned street are dusted with fresh snow, and the gorgeous New England Architecture is beyond romantic. There are the normal things to enjoy here – ice-skating, walks in the snow covered park, and log cabin pubs…. It’s perfection!
4. Disney Land, Paris
Disney Land is always a world full of magic and surprise (and the kids will love it) but the place really comes alive during the festive period. You’ll be in awe at their amazing parades, the fireworks, and the themed shows and you’ll feel so festive it’s untrue! Head out of the theme park though and explore the city for a day too – as there is nothing quite so romantic and festive as Paris in the snow!
5. Sydney, Australia
For something a little different – try jetting off to Sydney for Christmas and New Year. Aside from the phenomenal fireworks on New Year’s Eve – you’ll also get to spend Christmas day relaxing on a sandy white beach soaking up the sunshine. There’s nothing quite like it actually – and it’ll be a real experience (especially if it’s your first summer-Christmas).
In the Land of the Rising Sun: Kyoto City Guide
Land of the Rising Sun Kyoto City Japan
Kyoto often gets dwarfed by the fame of Japan’s bigger cities, like Tokyo and Osaka. But Kyoto’s charm doesn’t lie in its size. As one of the few cities that escaped bombing during World War II, Kyoto is one of the best places in Japan to see pre-war buildings like palacesand temples. Let’s take a quick overview of all the delights that Kyoto offers.
Palaces
The Imperial Palaces are must-sees. Both the Imperial Palace and the Sento Imperial Palace are located in Central Kyoto. Take a walk through the two Imperial villas:Katsurain Western Kyoto and Shugakuin in Northern Kyoto. These palaces and villas are famous for their beautifully maintained gardens and teahouses. The most gorgeous time to visit is the spring when you can see the famous cherry blossoms. If you go in the fall, look for the color-changing leaves of the Japanese maples.
All of these places are open to the public for free. However, make sure you reserve a place on a tour—there is a quota on the number of visitors allowed per tour. There are English-language tours at the Imperial Palace but not the other three. However, English pamphlets are available for every tour.
Temples
For those that want to try an authentic Japanese Buddhist experience, head to Taizo-in and Shunko-in in Northern Kyoto. Both temples offer Zen meditation sessions along with explanations of the practice.
Try climbing up the mountains in Eastern Kyoto to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. It’s perched on the side of a mountain on top of 13-meter wooden columns, giving visitors an unparalleled view of Kyoto. Kiyomizu is a romantic spot for couples. There is a famous shrine said to help people find love—walk between the two stones alone, and you will find your true love. Make sure to bless your union by watching the sunset together, a tradition practiced by many Japanese couples.
Eat
After all this walking, head back into Central Kyoto to eat some of the specialties. Look for yu do-fu, a famous tofu dish where boiled, fresh tofu is dipped into a side sauce. Additionally, Kyoto has an abundance of vegetarian dishes called Shojin-ryori due to the plethora of practicing Buddhists.
Their most famous food is actually matcha green tea. You will find bags of matcha tea powder sold in shops in Kyoto, and the quality of most tea is superb. Don’t just drink matcha however—also try the matcha ice cream, cookies and desserts. These make great souvenirs to take home – but don’t bring too much. You don’t want to rack up those baggage fees.
Entertainment
The most famous Kyoto entertainers are Geishas. Kyoto has the highest concentration of Geisha and maiko (apprentice Geisha) in Japan, so make sure to watch a show. They entertain at teahouses by singing, dancing and playing traditional Japanese instruments. Even if you don’t catch a show, you can see them wandering the streets fully-garbed, almost like you stepped back 400 years in history.
If you want something special, go take in a Noh show. Noh is a form of classic Japanese musical performed by chanting men with orchestral background music. One form of Noh, Takigi-noh, takes place outdoors. There are piles of firewood at each corner of the stage that are lit on fire during the performance.
Kyoto was the capital of Japan for over a millennium, and it’s a city full of tradition, culture and history. While its no longer a major cosmopolitan center, it’s the perfect city for a lovely weekend trip from Tokyo to take in Japan.

My Trip to London
One of the most attractive things about London is that this city provides a home to thousands or even millions of artifacts and paintings from well known artists all around the globe. The city has quite a number of different museums and each one has a collection of unique and quite impressive artifacts. The museums differ in size and collections, but they all present visitors with an exciting and educational experience.
On this weekend trip to London, I planned to visit as many museums as I could. With so many museums in the city, I knew that there simply wouldn’t be enough time to visit them all. I knew that it would take a few hours to go through anyone of the museums to take a closer look at the artifacts and paintings, so I decided to visit the ones that were most popular first and save the rest for when I had the opportunity to visit London again.
The first on my list of museums to visit was the Courtauld Gallery. I was fortunate to have a friend that was a member of the Friends of the Courtauld, an organization that supported the Courtauld Gallery, so admission was free. If I had gone there alone, admission would have set me back £9.
The Courtauld Gallery is not one of the biggest museums in London. In fact, it is known to be one of the smallest, yet it is a home for the some of the most important collections of paintings in Britain. The gallery has some of the most outstanding collections from the Renaissance period and some of the most impressive works of the 20th century.
On the way to the Courtland Gallery, I was excited to be able to visit one of the most popular museums in London, we also visited The National Gallery, the British Museum, and had fun seeing the collection of British war planes at The Royal Air Force Museum.
The collection of paintings at the National Gallery was very impressive as they had some that were painted in the year 1250. They also had paintings that were created in the 1900’s but it was more interesting how artist’s centuries ago were already able to become masters of their art.
The few museums that I was able to visit that day reaffirmed my belief that London is one of the best places on earth to get a glimpse of our past and to appreciate the artistic talents of some of the best painters that this world has ever produced. London is the home of some of the most priceless treasures not only in the UK, but in the whole world.

Best Honeymoon Destinations
The best feeling after the wedding, apart from spending the rest of your life with the person you cherish the most, is the preparation for the honeymoon. Choosing a honeymoon destination is not as easy as it seems and depends on various items. There is no best way to choose a honeymoon destination but you should look into some details about the country, its culture and tradition. Every country has its beauty but choose the right one for you. This is the list of the best honeymoon destinations.
- Tokyo, Japan
Tokyo should be your number one choice especially if this is your first visit to this country. There are so many attractions in Japan that can make you fall in love with this entirely different culture and tradition. What you need to know before going there? The best season to visit Tokyo is in March and April when the cherry blossoms bloom. Do not by any chance miss a Japanese Kabuki performance but do not worry about the language barriers because plays are easy to understand. Another thing not to be missed in Japan is the view from the observation deck of the Tokyo Tower at night, and it is the view unlike any other. Last but not least, do not miss a hot spring resort outside Tokyo called onsen because this is one of the best places to get a view of Mt. Fuji and if you have a wild nature then feel free to climb the mountain. Try every traditional cuisine and visit some of the most beautiful temples like Toji or Kiyomizu.
- Sydney, Australia
East Coast Australia is well known by its natural beauty and attractive destinations. Sydney as a harbour city attracts many travellers but it is also a marvellous honeymoon destination. Opera house and Harbour Bridge are a must see. Australia is your number one destination if you are seeking for an adventure. Many couples choose outstanding wedding venues in Sydney so that they can have their honeymoon after the wedding on those beautiful tropical coral-sand beaches. Sydney's city beach is the most popular honeymoon destination. Natural parks and gardens in Sydney are breath taking as well. Free spirits can enjoy a lot of different activities such as bungee jumping, canoeing, rafting and hot-air ballooning. Even if you decide to travel outside Sydney you will be astonished by the nature and its wild life.
- Bangkok, Thailand
Being a top destination for many travellers, this Southeast Asian kingdom is a world of peace and fun. The best time to experience the summer in Thailand is in February. Bangkok is a must see metropolis. Chinatown, Charoen Krung Roads and Grand Palace are mandatory attractions. Explore some more of the Thailand by visiting destinations outside Bangkok such as Chiang Mai, the mountain top Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, or Doi Inthanon National Park. Rich diversity of coral life and beautiful beaches can be found in the southern Thailand. Thailand's largest island, Pukhet, will surely occupy your time and imagination by diving, sailing and different waters sports. Do not forget to enjoy the sound of Buddhist mantras as well, and to shop for some Thai silk and taste spicy cuisine.
There are many more honeymoon destinations all over the world, many of the famous, many of them are not so famous. Along with choosing some of the destinations above, you can risk and choose a place of your liking.
5 Must Visit UK Pubs
Pubs are a British staple and if you think all pubs were created equal then think again! Good pubs are full of good food, reverie and a happy crowd (and of course, a friendly bartender and some entertainment doesn’t go unnoticed either!). We have selected a few of our must visit UK pubs to help you navigate your way to some excellent UK pubs.
1.) Maid of Muswell, Muswell Hill, London
Maid of Muswell is recognizable by the giant plastic cow that adorns it’s front porch. What’s great about this pub is that they have somehow managed to create a lovely warm, welcoming atmosphere in spite of the small size and local location. Food is nice and comes fast, but the best thing is the very large selection of beers on offer, most notably a large selection of fruit beers, real ales and cast ales. A great hangout if ever there was one
2.) Paradise, Kensal Green, London
Paradise is a famous Gastro Pub around West London, mainly for it’s entertainment and beauty. Exceptionally upper class and very clean and nice, the food is your normal, average pub food and your drinks your average pub drinks – except for on Sundays where you will get a Sunday Lunch worthy of a king. What sets this pub apart from the rest the beautiful décor and comedy nights. Downstairs you can just as easily have tea in a nice china cup as you can a good pint of John Smiths, but upstairs you have a lovely outdoor balcony, complete with heat lamps, pretty furniture and plant life.A short step away the upstairs bar where, for only £5 per head, you can watch live stand-up comedy with regular famous faces coming to do a skit. Highly recommended.
3.) The Cove, Covent Garden
The Cove in Convent Garden is best known for its savory pasties, but an evening out touring London would not be complete without a G&T on the balcony. Yorkshire Pasties in hand, and drink in the other, if you are lucky enough to get a seat on the balcony around lunch time or dinner time you get to watch street performers below giving you the best of London street action, all from the warmth, heat and food of the upstairs area of this lovely, tiny central London pub. As well as the great evening meals this pub offers one of the best London breakfasts.
4.) The OldeMitre Pub, Clerkenwell, London
Small, cosy and hidden away from the hustle and bustle of London’s main streets, this pub is great for it’s adherence to true historic pub culture leaving TV’s, Arcades and anything with bright lights and noise outside. Old fashioned looks and appearance, the hidden and difficult to find nature makes it a pleasant secret, where you can cosy up with friends and forget where you are.
5.) Gordons Wine Bar, London
OK, so strictly speaking this is a wine bar, but it made our top pubs lists because it services everything that a pub does but with a twist. What makes Gordons so special is that it is the oldest drinking establishment in London and remains unchanged to this day. Walk in, and you will have walked hundreds of years back in history: candlelit coves, low ceilings and ancient feeling tables, this place is a true treat for any drinking fan.

Dreaming Honeymoon in Brazil
When you are planning your honeymoon, you’re almost certainly going to be looking for somewhere that allows you to forget the stresses and strains of the wedding and just plain old relax... But once you’ve had a week or so lying on the beach and chilling out, it’s nice to have something a little more... exciting to look forward to. Luckily a honeymoon in Brazil gives you the chance to enjoy some of the best beaches in the world, safe in the knowledge that you have a whole host of exciting activities to look forward to as well!
Although you’ll probably start your Brazil honeymoon in Rio de Janeiro, some of Brazil’s best beaches are found up in the north-east of the country. Although Brazil is a BIG country, it’s only a short flight to somewhere like Salvador or Recife, and once you’ve landed you can head straight off to the beach. Places like Porto de Galinhas and Praia do Forte offer top-notch resort-style hotels and long stretches of palm tree-lined white sands. This close to the equator you’re guaranteed year-round perfect beach weather so you can be safe in the knowledge that the ‘relaxation’ portion of your honeymoon will proceed as planned.
If you’ve chosen a winter wedding then in the southern hemisphere it will be the height of summer, so you might not need to travel to the north of Brazil on your honeymoon. Just two hours north from Rio, you’ll find the gorgeous resort area of Buzios. Originally just a typical fishing village, Buzios is now a small town at the end of a peninsula, surrounded by dozens of small beaches and coves. Although it’s popular now as a weekend retreat for people from Rio, during the week it’s much quieter and you can pretty much pick your own beach! Alternatively, to the south of Rio the colonial gem of Parati offers even more in the way of semi-deserted beaches for you to live out all your Robinson Crusoe fantasies.
And once you’re thoroughly relaxed, it might be time to head away from the coast and spend the second half of your honeymoon in Brazil exploring a little more of this exciting country. Rio de Janeiro itself is famous the world over for its Carnival, but even outside of Carnival time, Rio has some of the continent’s best restaurants and nightlife, while sights like the Tijuca Forest and the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer are definitely must-sees on a holiday in Brazil. Further inland are the fabulous Iguazu Falls, which are the largest waterfalls in South America, and the largest anywhere with the exception of Victoria Falls. You can explore the falls from a series of walkways along the canyon edges, or even head out onto the river below for some white-water rafting. American newly-weds traditionally visit Niagara Falls but we can guarantee that a visit to Iguazu Falls on your Brazil honeymoon will be much more impressive!
If you’re a wildlife fan, then you might prefer to visit the majestic Amazon rainforest or take a honeymoon cruise on the River Amazon itself. This can be marvellous fun, but if really want the best possible wildlife experience on your honeymoon in Brazil then you need to head to the vast Pantanal wetlands in the south of Brazil. Covering an area the size of France, this enormous network of waterways, marshes and savannah is home to some of Brazil’s most exciting wildlife, like Jaguars, Anacondas and Capybaras, and a few days here will give you a much better chance of seeing these animals than if you spend that time in the rainforest.
Whether you’re looking for quality beach time, something more energetic, or a combination of the two, you can be sure that a honeymoon in Brazil will let you do just that! With a huge variety of climates, scenery, people and cultures, there are very few countries indeed which can offer you such a choice.

A Simple Guide On Finding A Travel Destination
So you finally decide to go on a trip? Now comes the hard part of deciding where to go. There are many possible venues that can ensure a worthwhile vacation. If you are finding it hard to decide on the place to go, here are some tips you can consider in going about with your travel plan.
If you are traveling on your own, then no need to worry. You can coordinate with a travel agent and choose a tour package for solo travelers. If you are going with your spouse or friend, the interest of everyone should be considered. In order to find a destination for your travel and leisure, have your companions list down their preferences. This will help narrow down the best travel destination for your group.
Once you have decided on the destination, the next thing to do is consider several factors that may impact your vacation.
Planning The Trip
Length of Trip - If you are retired, you can choose how long the trip will be. But if you are an employee, check if your leave credits would permit long travel. If you are taking your pet, take into consideration the needs of the animal’s companion or if the tourism policy of your desired destination allows it.
Pace - If you are going on a tour package arranged by a travel agent, the pace may be a huge issue. The tour may be too fast or too slow for your group. This is not an issue if you are traveling alone as you can go on your own pace. Your best option is to add more days to your travel plan to allow you to recover from jet lag especially if you are flying several hours.
Cost - The best travel experience always considers the cost of the trip. Vacation to a distant location may entail more costs due to higher fees. So before going on your travel and leisure, determine first your budget.
Health - Your health condition may hamper you from completely enjoying your trip. If you are on wheelchair or scooter, make sure to contact hotels with accessible rooms. Include in your travel plan, a trip to the doctor to make sure that you have the necessary prescriptions.

Wondering what to do on your Gap Year?
Most people will not retire until they are in their late 60’s or early 70’s. For many of us, that’s over 50 years away! It’s important to consider not rushing in to the rest of your life straight after school, and to enjoy your youth whilst you’re not tied down to responsibilities like a career or a family. Taking a Gap Year is the perfect opportunity for doing just that.
A problem with Gap Years, though, is that people often have problems in raising sufficient funds to support or prolong their trip – but do not fret! Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) is a fantastic opportunity to earn money and support life abroad. There are jobs throughout Africa, Asia, Central America, North America, Europe and the UK. There are varying durations and intensities of work placements, and some employers even cover the costs of flights, insurance and housing. This can mean you are left with even more money to enjoy your time there or travel somewhere else afterwards.
TEFL is an option for anyone who can speak English at a native or near-native level. You don’t need any experience in teaching at all, and once enrolled on a course you will have free, lifetime access to the TEFL Job Centre, meaning you are kept up to date with hundreds of exclusive TEFL employment vacancies throughout the world.Burma, Thailand, Vietnam, Brazil, Spain, Hungary, China – these are only a few of the countries looking for English teachers!
It’s not an opportunity that generations before us have had, and travelling is a widely accepted aspect of life nowadays. It’s therefore important to seize this opportunity and see the world. You can truly make a difference somewhere that may have limited resources and limited opportunities. In completing a TEFL England course and moving abroad to teach, you will gain new experiences, make new friends and really benefit a local community and its students.Even if, like many people, you’re not sure what you want to do with your life and can’t decide on any definite career path, a TEFL experience can be inspiring, and you may realise ambitions or dreams that you never knew you had.
So, go for it! Complete a TEFL course and see the world before embarking on University, College or ‘real’ life. You never know, though; real life might meet you there.
For more information go to: http://teflengland.co.uk/ or have a look at the different course options available at: http://teflengland.co.uk/course-options.asp.

Memphis - The Home of the Blues and so much more
There are some parts of the world, be they towns, cities or countries, which are synonymous with one particular thing. It may be a profession, a food item or perhaps a sport, but there are others which are synonymous with a genre of music. In the USA, the blues is primarily associated with the Deep South, and for many aficionados the city of Memphis in Tennessee is where the true blues heart really beats.
Visitors to this stunning city have a huge range of options when the time comes to do a little sightseeing. There are so many iconic landmarks just waiting to be discovered, and the region has a pleasingly slow pace of life. In Memphis, the journey is just as important as the arrival, so make sure you act like the locals and leave your tensions back home when you first head to Tennessee.
Perhaps the most famous Memphis landmark of them all is Graceland, the former home of rock and roll legend Elvis Presley. Recent statistics revealed that Graceland is the second-most visited home in the whole of the US (the first is the White House). Packed with Elvis memorabilia including cars, motorcycles and airplanes, it provides a fascinating insight into a side of ‘The King’ that most people never got the chance to see. For serious fans, Elvis Week, which is held in August every year, has become something of a pilgrimage.
Valuable studio time
If it hadn’t been for the studios of Sun Records, the chances are we would never have heard of Elvis Presley. The legendary studio was used by many of the biggest names in rock and roll, including Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash. These days, guided tours are a must for Memphis visitors who want to find out a little more about the golden age of recording.
Just under two miles long, Beale Street is a thriving entertainment district that has become something of a magnet for tourists from all over the world. The street is home to a large number of live music venues, offering a cross-section of genres but understandably featuring the blues most of all, and a great choice of restaurants.
And speaking of food, why not try some of the local Tennessee cuisine instead of the usual main street offerings? There are so many home cooking specialities that are on offer, such as cornmeal-coated deep-fried catfish, beef stew and browned chicken with bacon. And on a warm afternoon, try a locally-prepared salad - it’s delicious.

If you're interested in the history Turkey has to offer then you can simply hop on a plane at the Antalya airport and head to Istanbul for a night or two. Be sure to check out the popular Hagia Sophia and Kariye museums while you're there.

There you can expect temperatures to be around 20°C at that time of year. If you're interested in hitting the beach during the day and partying at night, then Ayia Napa is the place for you.
The Canary Islands are another fabulous destination for a holiday in October. Because of their location off the northwest coast of Africa, these islands still get great weather in late summer and early autumn. Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria are all popular islands in the Canaries for tourists from the UK and around the world. You'll find sandy beaches to lounge on during the day and crowded clubs to dance in at night. How to Make a Difference as a Charity Volunteer?
Volunteering for a charity organisation can be highly rewarding. A volunteer position allows you to give something back to your community, while also providing the opportunity to travel the world and assist in wartorn and disaster hit areas. At the same time, charity volunteering requires a lot of personal strength, and the confidence to travel and live in some harsh conditions. The kind of difference that you can make is dependent on what you can do, and how eligible you are or different jobs. It’s also worth considering the benefits of long term trips and repeat visits, as well as remembering some caution when applying for charity volunteer work.
What You Can Do
In terms of local charity work, you can help out with fundraising and specific charity events, as well as providing teaching and activity building for charities. You can also volunteer in a homeless shelter, or help out as a steward or a stall runner for a charity festival. For overseas volunteering, roles can include anything from teaching English in a school, to helping to build homes and provide teaching to villages in the Kenya Masai, Uganda, and the Mexican Puerto Vallerta. Other options include applying to volunteer in Malawi schools and building projects. Many areas also require help at orphanages, and as part of medical teams in areas affected by natural disasters. Find out more information about charity work in Africa.

Eligibility
To be eligible or charity volunteer work, you typically need to be over 18 and a passport holder. Most charity volunteers also have to pay towards parts of their journey and visa requirements. This might mean covering flights, and paying towards accommodation and expenses when on a placement. Generally speaking, though, the costs of a volunteer role will be much lower when you arrive at an area. If you do want to take a charity role further, organisations tend to prefer graduates that can work in sales and marketing, and on an administrative level.
Long Term Trips
There are many opportunities to build charity volunteering into a regular part of your annual summer, or even longer. One project in Malawi has recently focused on school building, and the development of a better infrastructure for villages. This project has including building the Lingadzi Academy, and a community center in Lilongwe. As a volunteer in Malawi, students can help build, teach, and play games with local children. In this case, it is possible to extend your time at the project, and to gradually take on more responsibilities.
Being Careful
Always go with a reputable company when you volunteer for charity work, and try to find out as much as possible about a project before you put your money down. It’s also important to be able to have enough funds to cover a trip, especially if things change, and you need to return to your home country at short notice. You should also plan for vaccinations before you travel, and should seek advice from the charity organisation as your first point of contact. Advice can also be gained from embassies about any specific dangers that may be encountered in a particular country.
