When you are planning your honeymoon, you’re almost certainly going to be looking for somewhere that allows you to forget the stresses and strains of the wedding and just plain old relax... But once you’ve had a week or so lying on the beach and chilling out, it’s nice to have something a little more... exciting to look forward to. Luckily a honeymoon in Brazil gives you the chance to enjoy some of the best beaches in the world, safe in the knowledge that you have a whole host of exciting activities to look forward to as well!
Although you’ll probably start your Brazil honeymoon in Rio de Janeiro, some of Brazil’s best beaches are found up in the north-east of the country. Although Brazil is a BIG country, it’s only a short flight to somewhere like Salvador or Recife, and once you’ve landed you can head straight off to the beach. Places like Porto de Galinhas and Praia do Forte offer top-notch resort-style hotels and long stretches of palm tree-lined white sands. This close to the equator you’re guaranteed year-round perfect beach weather so you can be safe in the knowledge that the ‘relaxation’ portion of your honeymoon will proceed as planned.
If you’ve chosen a winter wedding then in the southern hemisphere it will be the height of summer, so you might not need to travel to the north of Brazil on your honeymoon. Just two hours north from Rio, you’ll find the gorgeous resort area of Buzios. Originally just a typical fishing village, Buzios is now a small town at the end of a peninsula, surrounded by dozens of small beaches and coves. Although it’s popular now as a weekend retreat for people from Rio, during the week it’s much quieter and you can pretty much pick your own beach! Alternatively, to the south of Rio the colonial gem of Parati offers even more in the way of semi-deserted beaches for you to live out all your Robinson Crusoe fantasies.
And once you’re thoroughly relaxed, it might be time to head away from the coast and spend the second half of your honeymoon in Brazil exploring a little more of this exciting country. Rio de Janeiro itself is famous the world over for its Carnival, but even outside of Carnival time, Rio has some of the continent’s best restaurants and nightlife, while sights like the Tijuca Forest and the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer are definitely must-sees on a holiday in Brazil. Further inland are the fabulous Iguazu Falls, which are the largest waterfalls in South America, and the largest anywhere with the exception of Victoria Falls. You can explore the falls from a series of walkways along the canyon edges, or even head out onto the river below for some white-water rafting. American newly-weds traditionally visit Niagara Falls but we can guarantee that a visit to Iguazu Falls on your Brazil honeymoon will be much more impressive!
If you’re a wildlife fan, then you might prefer to visit the majestic Amazon rainforest or take a honeymoon cruise on the River Amazon itself. This can be marvellous fun, but if really want the best possible wildlife experience on your honeymoon in Brazil then you need to head to the vast Pantanal wetlands in the south of Brazil. Covering an area the size of France, this enormous network of waterways, marshes and savannah is home to some of Brazil’s most exciting wildlife, like Jaguars, Anacondas and Capybaras, and a few days here will give you a much better chance of seeing these animals than if you spend that time in the rainforest.
Whether you’re looking for quality beach time, something more energetic, or a combination of the two, you can be sure that a honeymoon in Brazil will let you do just that! With a huge variety of climates, scenery, people and cultures, there are very few countries indeed which can offer you such a choice.
