One of the most attractive things about London is that this city provides a home to thousands or even millions of artifacts and paintings from well known artists all around the globe. The city has quite a number of different museums and each one has a collection of unique and quite impressive artifacts. The museums differ in size and collections, but they all present visitors with an exciting and educational experience.
On this weekend trip to London, I planned to visit as many museums as I could. With so many museums in the city, I knew that there simply wouldn’t be enough time to visit them all. I knew that it would take a few hours to go through anyone of the museums to take a closer look at the artifacts and paintings, so I decided to visit the ones that were most popular first and save the rest for when I had the opportunity to visit London again.
The first on my list of museums to visit was the Courtauld Gallery. I was fortunate to have a friend that was a member of the Friends of the Courtauld, an organization that supported the Courtauld Gallery, so admission was free. If I had gone there alone, admission would have set me back £9.
The Courtauld Gallery is not one of the biggest museums in London. In fact, it is known to be one of the smallest, yet it is a home for the some of the most important collections of paintings in Britain. The gallery has some of the most outstanding collections from the Renaissance period and some of the most impressive works of the 20th century.
On the way to the Courtland Gallery, I was excited to be able to visit one of the most popular museums in London, we also visited The National Gallery, the British Museum, and had fun seeing the collection of British war planes at The Royal Air Force Museum.
The collection of paintings at the National Gallery was very impressive as they had some that were painted in the year 1250. They also had paintings that were created in the 1900’s but it was more interesting how artist’s centuries ago were already able to become masters of their art.
The few museums that I was able to visit that day reaffirmed my belief that London is one of the best places on earth to get a glimpse of our past and to appreciate the artistic talents of some of the best painters that this world has ever produced. London is the home of some of the most priceless treasures not only in the UK, but in the whole world.
