Pokhara
Pokara is a warm part of Nepal. Pokahara is home to beautiful temples, shrines and Buddhist practice which makes it ideal for a chillout. Many people often consider trekking to be a high intensity activity, with lots of hard work and sleeping rough, but trekking through Pokhara could not be more different. The Nepal climate is such that you often barely need a tent to cover you as the night air is cooler and less humid than the sticky daytime. In a place like Pokhara you are met with calm.
The sheer beauty of Pokhara is enough to unwind, and everywhere you go you with be met with the soothing flute sounds of Nepal’s Buddhist music, meditation and chanting. There are massive areas of natural greenery which is very smoothing and calming, especially if you have travelled from a busy area like Kathmandu.
Wherever you stay, you will be surrounded by mountains, blue sky and bright green foliage. Pokhara has a city centre, so you will be able to shop and do the usual tourist things. You will also be able to rent a taxi driver for the day, to visit the World Peace Pagoda which is a temple in Pokhara. To enter the temple you must remove your shoes (you must remove your shoes before entering most buildings in Buddhist countries) and from there, you will be able to get an ariel view of the town high up in the mountain. Absolute bliss!
Pokhara also has an enormous lake which you can raft across, and small markets in which you buy trinkets and treasures to remind you of your time in Nepal. There is also a waterfall in Pokhara called Debbies Waterfall, where you can picnic and eat on the grass next to the waterfall. It’s cooler here as well.
Everest Panorama
If you are lucky enough to trek to Everest Panorama when you visit Nepal, you are in for real treat. The Everest Panorama trek is shorter than other treks through Nepal and is excellent for chillout because of the slow pace and scenic views. Camping as you go along and spending the nights in the open air by a real fire is exceptionally relaxing. Trekking through Nepal, while on Nepal tours, towards Everest Panorama usually stops at a few famous chillout locations, so that you unwind a little more with each ascent that you make. First stop is usually the Tengboche Monastery which is 3850metres high. Once you are up there, you can go into the monastery to relax, with the smell of incense in the background, absolute silence, fresh mountain air and a view of Everest. It is still quite warm, not as hot as ground level and not too cold which makes it ideal for absorbing some sunrays without breaking too much of a sweat. Trekking up still higher, this trek will take you along a Sherpa village. Sherpa villages are very quiet and rural, and a unique to Nepal.
